Over the June 6-7 weekend, many parishes across the Archdiocese of Toronto hosted Corpus Christi Processions. St. Benedict Parish shares their experience below.

On June 7, a Eucharistic Procession was held at St. Benedict Church in celebration of the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.  Participants publicly expressed their faith in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist and honored that Jesus Christ is truly present in the consecrated bread and wine.

This procession route took place around the parish grounds. Fr. Adaikala Raja John, SDB, warmly invited everyone in the parish community to participate in this first and annual Eucharistic Procession.

Fr. Raja carried the monstrance and was accompanied by young adults, who were bearers of the canopy, which honoured and gave reverence to Christ in the Eucharist. Fr. Munir Al Raie, SDB, Director of the Salesian works in Nazareth, joined in as well. Altar servers led the procession, carrying the cross, lighting candles and the thurible with incense. Deacon Peter Takaoka read Bible verses about the Eucharist. The music ministry led with Taizé songs, followed by prayerful and reflective Eucharistic hymns. Deacon Mike Carrera and Sr. Hae-Jin Lim, FMA also participated in the procession.

Children who recently received their first Holy Communion sprinkled different coloured rose petals for the path of Jesus. Young and old walked in silence, alongside fellow worshippers in reverence and awe.

The procession returned to St. Benedict Parish. Fr Raja held a Benediction with parishioners inside the church. It was a powerful testament of worship and public witness and resulted in a stronger sense of community. After this special procession and profession of faith, everyone was invited to a BBQ and fellowship hosted by the Knights of Columbus.
